Job Title: Interpreter
Department: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
Education Level and Certification: High school degree or GED. Interpreting experience preferred. Must be fluent and proficient in speaking, understanding, and translating multiple languages.
Reports To: Director of CIA or designee.
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
- Provide oral and/or written interpretation services during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, school events, or any other meetings where communication between non-English speaking parents and school staff.
- Interpret both formal and informal communication, maintain neutrality, and ensure accurate translation and interpretations.
- Ensure clear and accurate transmission of information, including academic performance, behavioral concerns, special education plans, and other relevant school-related matters.
- Ensure translations are culturally and contextually appropriate for the target audience.
- Exhibit cultural sensitivity when interacting with families from diverse backgrounds.
- Be aware of cultural nuances and adjust communication style accordingly.
- Maintain fluency in multiple languages and keep apprised of new words, terminology, and phrases in different languages.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.
At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
