Job Title: Interpreter


Department: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment


Education Level and Certification: High school degree or GED.  Interpreting experience preferred. Must be fluent and proficient in speaking, understanding, and translating multiple languages.


Reports To: Director of CIA or designee.


Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks

  1. Provide oral and/or written interpretation services during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, school events, or any other meetings where communication between non-English speaking parents and school staff.
  2. Interpret both formal and informal communication, maintain neutrality, and ensure accurate translation and interpretations.
  3. Ensure clear and accurate transmission of information, including academic performance, behavioral concerns, special education plans, and other relevant school-related matters.
  4. Ensure translations are culturally and contextually appropriate for the target audience.
  5. Exhibit cultural sensitivity when interacting with families from diverse backgrounds.
  6. Be aware of cultural nuances and adjust communication style accordingly.
  7. Maintain fluency in multiple languages and keep apprised of new words, terminology, and phrases in different languages.
  8. Serve as a role model to all students.
  9. Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
  10. Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  11. Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  12. Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  14. Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

 

FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.

 

At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
