Job Title: Behavior Technician for the Gretna Behavior Skills Program 

Immediate Supervisor:  Classroom Teacher and Building Principal

 

  

Essential Requirements:  

  1. Minimum of a high school diploma.
  2. Successfully pass required background checks.
  3. Regular and dependable in-person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment. The assigned duties of this position may allow consideration of occasional/infrequent remote work with the approval of the supervisor. Remote work is subject to the remote work guidelines and conditions outlined in the job description. The supervisor may withdraw the remote work option at any time.

 

General Responsibilities:  To assist the teacher and student with daily activities in the classroom,  including the implementation of behavioral strategies to ensure students are provided with the support they need, in order to access their curriculum.

      

Essential Responsibilities:  

  1. Understand and comply with the Gretna Schools Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
  2. Assist classroom teachers to support students in accessing the school setting in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
  3. Implement academic, social language, and behavioral programming, using principles of ABA, under the direction of the classroom teacher, speech-language pathologist, and other professionals.
  4. Create materials to provide behavioral supports that align with academic, social language, and behavioral programming.
  5. Provide modeling and coaching around the implementation of behavior interventions and ABA principles, as directed by the supervisor.
  6. Assist school staff in conducting functional behavioral assessments, collecting behavioral data, and delivering behavior programming using the principles of ABA.
  7. Independently utilize feedback from the supervisor to refine, change, and further modify academic and behavior programs to best meet student needs.
  8. Maintain updated student data and progress notes, summarize and visually represent academic and behavioral programming, as directed by the classroom teacher.
  9. Support staff and students in the school setting (i.e., during transitions between classes, beginning and end of the day, at recess, lunch specials, and other activities/environments as assigned) while optimizing social interactions and social pragmatic instruction in real life situations, using principles of ABA.
  10. Respond to and provide leadership during behavioral crisis situations, regarding interventions as they pertain to the student.
  11. Support staff and students in addressing students adaptive living skills such as toileting, feeding, dressing, etc. as it relates to behavior, on an as needed basis.
  12. Assist students with activities of daily living or functional living skills when necessary and supports health related activities.
  13. Assist with classroom arrangements.
  14. Provides input regarding daily child observations.
  15. Respond to class needs as the teachers work with students on an individual basis.
  16. Assist with general housekeeping tasks in the classroom.
  17. Participate with in-service training and staff development as requested.
  18. Implement universal health precautions to ensure a safe environment for children and adults.
  19. Provide own transportation to fulfill responsibilities of position.
  20. Understand and comply with Gretna Public School Educational Policies, Philosophies and Student Handbook.
  21. Demonstrate professional conduct, maintain confidentiality and pursue professional growth.
  22. Communicate areas of concern to classroom teachers.
  23. Other duties as assigned.
