Substitute Teacher Job Description

Gretna Schools utilizes local substitute teachers who have an active certificate from the state of NE. If you have a local sub certificate please contact HR (402) 332-3265 for more information on the application process.
Pay rate $175/day. Long term - $190/day starting the 11th consecutive day in the same assignment. Substitute teachers will also receive an extra $10 per day for each day worked over 10 in a semster.
Job Title: Substitute Teacher
Department: Instruction Education Level and Certification: Bachelor’s degree required. Must at all times during employment possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate (or permit to serve as a substitute teacher) with such endorsements as required by NDE Rule 10 and all other certification and training as required or assigned.
Reports To: Principal or Principal’s Designee
Required Job Tasks
- Follow lesson plans provided by the absent teacher and maintain instructional continuity.
- Manage classroom behavior and create an environment conducive to learning.
- Provide support to students in completing assignments, addressing questions, and guiding their academic progress.
- Ensure students are engaged and focused during lessons and activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and behavior.
- Communicate any issues, concerns, or observations to the school administration.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional periods as needed.
- Ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere, promoting positive student interactions.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures at all times.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher.
